Spirit Services Company, formerly Van Dyne Crotty Company, started into business in December 1934 on a $500 loan secured by two partners, Lloyd Van Dyne and Fergus Crotty. The business was started in the tough economic climate of the Great Depression and was done out of necessity for both men to provide for their families. The initial product line for the new company was the cleaning and selling of rags to the many factories and machine shops of Central Ohio that needed to remove oil and grease from the floors, machinery and manufactured parts.

The company headquartered in Columbus, Ohio and grew steadily over the years while expanding the product line to include work uniforms, entrance mats, dust control products, linen and paper services, as well as glove renovation and launderable absorbents. The acquisition of other companies in the industry helped the company grow geographically, but was not identified as a regional company because of the different trade names used.

This problem was resolved in June of 1999 when all the companies were brought under the new trade name of "Spirit Services Company" with the tag line of "America's Winning Uniform Service Team". We are truly one company with many locations from Ohio to Florida. "Spirit" reflects our enthusiasm for taking care of our customer's needs to the best of our ability.

More and more growth has built over the years and then Spirit Services Company decided it was time to turn over a new identity yet again. Changing the tag line in 2006 to "Delivering Excellence" that serves also as a promise to keep doing so for years to come.

Our place in industry is secure because we have a national focus of the customer wherever they are located because we're a part of the CSC Network. The CSC Network is an association of independent and locally owned industrial laundries across North America that services customers with multiple locations who desire national contracts. This is truly the best of both worlds with local service and a national program for consistency of service and product.

We look forward to our future as we continue to grow with our customers, providing them products that enhance the image of their companies while also maintaining the cleanliness of their business. Proof of this is the fact that we have been awarded the Customer Choice Award for Business Excellence the last two years.
